The GP2Y0A21YK0F by Sharp is an infrared distance measuring sensor with very accurate readings in the 10cm-80cm range. It has an infrared LED coupled with a position sensitive detector (PSD) and a signal processing circuit, all integrated in a single enclosure, so no additional external components are needed.
The sensor is very easy to use: just provide 4.5V to 5.5V into the power supply pin and the result of the measurements are output through an analog signal between 0V and ~3V, corresponding to the distance of an object in front of the sensor. The curve is not linear, but the datasheet has a very clear plot showing the relation between voltage and distance. You can find the datasheet in the links here below.
The sensor has a male JST PH connector, and we include the cable with the mating female connector in one end and unterminated wires on the other end. Please note that the wire for the power supply is the yellow one, the analog signal wire is the red one and ground is the black one.
